How Can Using A Horse Stable Help?

As a child, you may have had dreams of having your own horse. If that dream did not come true then, perhaps it can now. Even if you live in an area that has rules against livestock on your property, it is still possible to be in the horsemanship club. That’s where horse stables come into play. Surely, there will be one within a reasonable driving distance for you.

It has been suggested by some owners to folks contemplating horse ownership, don’t run out and buy one immediately. First, you might consider finding a good stable near you and go there. Talk to people, rent a filly, volunteer your time and muscle to mucking out stalls, picking hooves, currying and feeding the horses. This will give you, and your child even, a good idea of the work that entails ownership.

Equestrian stables are a great place for children to learn responsibility. Owning a young colt involves a large commitment. Youngsters have a great opportunity to learn how to deal with problems and to accept the responsibility that goes along with owning something special of your own.

After taking the time to consider all of these points, and having become an adequate rider, you have now decide it is time to look for your own ride. No more rental horses for you. Start talking to people again, the stable owner, and any one you have met in the process of learning to ride. You know the work involved because you have been volunteering your time doing it.

Ok, so now months or years have passed and you still have not given up on the quest to own your own bronco. You have been up to your ankles in doo doo and straw bedding, broken your back carrying it out of the stalls and replacing it with more straw that you will be removing again shortly. Your arms ache from all of the currying you have done, you have been around when a horse was ill and the vet had to make a visit. The stable owner, knowing of your desire to be an owner, shows you the bill. That does not daunt you so maybe you are ready for the next step. That would be to start looking and riding horses actually for sale.

Briefly Looking At Horse Stables And Their Benefits

It should take a while to find an equine that “fits” you. They have temperaments just like people do and you want this to be an enjoyable experience for both you and the animal. Take your time and make several visits before making a choice. Once done, it is not easily undone. Your heart will be won over by your new friend and the feeling will most likely be returned.

Sometimes a stall must be rented or at least a pasture will need to be used because some folks do live in areas where animals are not allowed. When renting a pasture or stall you will have privileges and for an extra small amount of money the owner of the stall or pasture will feed and provide some care for your colt. All that is left is for you to show up, ride and enjoy.

If you have ever been out in the country you probably have seen horses playing and looking beautiful on someones property. Most all younger and a lot of the older people would love to own a mare or gelding, but with owning an animal comes quite a bit of personal responsibility. They will need medical maintenance and they will need some sort of shelter, that would mean a stable, either at home or away from home. Horse stables take very good care of your animal and you are able to go to your pet and companion anytime. However, most would like to have a pasture of their own to care for and love their pal. Building a stable for your animal is not very difficult and it would be such a joy to have your animal with you in your little piece of heaven.

Proper Care and Raising of Horses – How To Do It

Essentials Regarding Successfully Raising And Caring For Horses

A most enjoyable experience is raising and caring for horses. The prospect of looking for, selecting, and buying a horse, can be fun, but it is important to realize what the initial cost is going to be, as well as the continuing costs associated with the care of the animal. Finding the correct match between the rider and the horse requires some work, but it will pay off in the long run.

If you are a prospective, first-time horse owner, you need to consider the type of horse you want and the purpose for which you will use it. Knowing what to expect from an animal is important so that you can make an effective decision. It would not be a good idea to buy a high-spirited horse for a young, inexperienced rider. Conversely, an old, run-down animal would not be a good match for a skilled rider.

If you find the horse you believe is right for you, then riding it is the best way to confirm your decision. However, if you feel uncomfortable or threatened by the animal, then you need to move on and keep searching.

Once the decision has been made to buy the horse, a medical examination should be conducted by a veterinarian before any money exchanges hands. Depending upon the value and the plans for the horse, the examination may only need to be a basic once over or it may need to be more thorough.

Once everything is agreed upon, the new proud owner of the horse has to determine how and where the horse will be sheltered and fed. Some people are able to keep their horses at home. Others must investigate other options for keeping their animal.

If you must keep your horse elsewhere, you should pay attention to some details when visiting possible places for boarding. Some of them are the general condition of their feed, their stalls, and the animals that are kept there. Animals in boarding facilities have to depend on their caregivers in order to live. It is your responsibility to be sure your horse is in a safe situation.

Wherever your horse is housed, it will require feed, water, and forage. A trusted veterinarian can develop a feeding plan that will promote the well-being of your horse. The type and amount of feed you give your horse will depend upon its health, its nutritional needs, and its activity level.

It is vital to give horses adequate amounts of water, and to keep their buckets clean and fresh. While doing those chores, you may also muck the stall. Horses need dry, clean bedding, so it is advisable, using a pitchfork or other type of rake, to pick out the urine-soaked bedding and the manure. Straw, wood shavings, and sawdust are some common types of bedding.

Horse Care and Feeding Video

Feeding and watering the horse and cleaning the stalls promote health of the animal. Caring for its body also is good for its physical and mental health. When a horse is not familiar with being handled or touched, there may be a period of adjustment where you need to talk softly to calm the animal. It can be pleasurable for both the horse and the owner to spend time brushing the coat and combing the mane and tail.

Just as humans need comfort for their feet, horses need regular hoof care. Six to eight weeks is an appropriate interval for trimming their hooves. Although not mandatory, a horse may be much safer with shoes for protection of the hooves. It is also important to clean the hooves daily, using a hoof pick.

Choosing The Best Riding Stables And Equipment

by Jim Milton

So, you have decided that you want to take horseback riding lessons, but you have no idea how to get started. Luckily, there are endless resources available and you should have no problem getting started.

The first thing that you should do is to find a horse back riding instructor. There are many resources that you can access to find the perfect instructor for you needs. You can start by looking in your local phone directory, going to a horse show, or by word of mouth (do you have a friend or know someone taking lessons). You can also contact national, regional, or local horse clubs, the United States Equestrian Federation, or breed associations (AQHA, APHA, Appaloosa horse breeders…). You could also stop by a local stable and ask if they have an instructor that gives lessons, and even if they do not give lessons, they will probably know of someone who does.

When you are looking for an instructor, do not be afraid to ask question. After all, you want to get the best possible instruction for your money. The first thing you should ask is if the instructor has any certifications or accreditations. You should also ask how long they have owned and ridden horses, how long have they been teaching, what is their specialty (you want to make sure that they teach the discipline that you want to learn), how many students do they currently have, and do they offer private lessons? Once you have found an instructor, it is also important to evaluate the stables that they teach at.

When you are visiting the stables it is important to make sure that the stables are clean, the horses look healthy, and that the stables main priority is safety for everyone. Here are some specific things that you can look for when you are visiting a stable. Is the riding area free from clutter, are the students wearing riding helmets and horse back riding boots, are the lesson groups to big, do the students appear to be on the same level, are the horses healthy, and finally does everyone appear to be happy and having fun learning?

After you have progressed in your lessons, you may want to have your own equipment. There are many ways to find good quality equipment with out spending a fortune. Your best bet is to ask your instructor or other students at the stable if they, or someone they know, have any equipment for sale, or you can check your local paper or tack shop. When shopping for equipment you want to make sure that nothing is torn or cracked and you want to make sure that all of the leather equipment (saddles and bridles) have been properly oiled and conditioned to prevent the leather from cracking.

Horse Riding Lessons

Horseback Trail Riding – Take Lessons Before You Go

The decision is made; you want to take horse riding lessons. What a great choice of exercise and pleasure! However, just making the decision to learn to ride is not enough. You need to decide what sort of horse riding lessons you would like best. Your primary decision at this point is whether you think you would prefer to ride Western or English. If you choose English, you may have to choose between jumping or dressage seat or both if you event.

Perhaps your location will help you determine which type of horse riding lessons you will take. Most people look in their community for an instructor so your choices may be limited. Regardless of your choice in riding styles, look for an instructor with a good reputation. Ask your friends for suggestions and, once you have located an instructor, ask for references. Also, spend some time visiting the stable where you plan to take your horse riding lessons. Observe the horses to see if they are well cared for and if the stables appear clean and in good order. If you are satisfied with the facilities, make an appointment and get ready for a life changing experience.

Before the big day of your first horse riding lesson, you need to purchase a riding helmet and appropriate riding attire. As a beginner, it is best to keep your purchases modest and not opt for show quality clothes and boots. Depending on the style of riding you have chosen, you will need a pair of jeans and western boots for Western riding or a pair of jodhpur boots and jodhpur breeches. Any comfortable shirt appropriate to the season will do.

Try to arrive early for your first lesson. It is common to sign some paperwork, including a release of liability, prior to your lesson. When a farm decides to offer horse riding lessons, they are much more vulnerable to law suits if accidents occur. Most farms have insurance to cover their exposure but, you, the rider, must help in making this a safe experience for everyone. Be honest about any prior riding experience. If you have only ridden once and it was twenty years ago, do not tell the instructor that you are experienced. The instructor must choose the horse that matches your level of experience and inflated reports of your ability can lead to your being mounted on a horse that is not suitable for beginners.

There is much more to horse riding lessons than simply mounting and riding. All students should learn to groom their horse. Before placing the saddle and bridle on your horse, you should complete two very important steps. First, inspect the tack for any signs of loose stitching or cracked leather. Be sure to point out any problems to your instructor. Secondly, you should always groom your horse. Dirt and debris should be removed by thoroughly currying and brushing his coat. Inspect the hooves as you clean them out. This process removes any stones and muck that could lead to injury. There is an old adage, "no hoof, no horse" and it is just as true today. Before you can take your horse riding lesson, you must have a sound and healthy horse. Likewise, after you complete your lesson, you should again clean the feet and groom the coat to remove any sweat or dirt which may have accumulated during your ride. Be sure to clean and oil your tack as needed to keep it supple and in good condition. be4902fb46d8bf0a01226519e0a17e55 Horse Riding Lessons

Horse riding lessons are a great way to spend your recreational time. You will make many friends at the stable and develop a life long sport. At minimum, be sure to continue your lessons until you have gained the basics of riding at the three gaits, that is walk, trot and canter both in the ring or manege and outside, if you plan to ride in uncontrolled environments. Horse riding lessons are great for all ages so be sure to consider making it a family sport.
